Engaging stakeholders in decision-making and building widespread agreement for contentious policy decisions is challenging, not just in the Murray-Darling Basin but across Australia. Whilst there have been many calls for more inclusive decision-making in the Murray-Darling Basin, little guidance exists for governments on different approaches, and how and when to apply them. Watertrust recommended to the Productivity Commission that relevant government agencies investigate, test and apply new approaches for involving Basin stakeholders in decision-making.
