Message from Watertrust CEO Karen Hutchinson

Watertrust Australia is a systems change organisation. Our mission is to achieve better and fairer water outcomes for Australia. We do this by bringing deliberation into the mix in the complex and contentious water space to resolve policy deadlocks.

It means being here for the long haul. Our work takes time and patience, and success is likely to be incremental. It does not mean you can’t have impact along the way. In fact, visible, relevant impact is essential to our work.

In this edition you can read about our strategy for impact. The strategy directs us to the right problem in the right place. It clearly focuses our work on places where existing processes have failed or stalled where issues are visible and connected to place and challenges that will capture and hold the attention of our decision makers.

Impact is also helped by the right team. There is no better demonstration of the power of trust and knowledge a team can bring than how we are working in the Lower Balonne.

Finally, impact can be achieved through sharing knowledge, testing new ideas and ways of working, refining them and continuing to use them in our work. In this newsletter we share reflections on our work on fairness from some of those who attended a recent workshop.
