On trust, fairness and the Basin Plan Review
Karen Hutchinson, Watertrust CEO
In this video, Watertrust Australia CEO Karen Hutchinson reflects on how philanthropy is such an important part of what makes Watertrust effective. Halfway through our 10-year funding, Watertrust Australia recently met with our funders in-person in Melbourne.
“We actually got to meet with our funders and not just tell them what we thought we could do, but actually show them what we are doing.” Karen says, “It was such a thrill to be able to demonstrate the difference that we're making on the ground in the northern basin and other parts of Australia by showing good process and how that can actually create workable solutions and break policy deadlocks.”
There’s been a lot happening at Watertrust recently, which you can read about in our newsletter. In relation to the Murray-Darling Basin Plan Review we have been working with the Lower Balonne Working Group to prepare a submission and also made one of our own. This newsletter also touches fairness as it relates to our work with the Landscape Board in South Australia as part of their water allocation planning process. Late last month we partnered with the Peter Cullen Water and Environment Trust and DemocracyCo for a workshop looking at different perspectives and fairness.
